Summary & Response

In the personal narrative “Two Questions” by Lynda Barry she shows that one must not give up their creative mind for the gratitude of others. Lynda Barry is a cartoonist that displays here emotions and thoughts through pictures. Lynda starts with saying she loved to draw because of the free flowing thought process and how it was her own. Then she starts drawing things that are only good to her peers and not necessarily to her. Lynda then realizes that the appreciation by others was not important as her own opinion on it and decides to start drawing for her again. She ends her personal literacy telling kids to come back to drawing and to not quit if someone says it’s not good. I completely agree with this narrative in many ways. Drawing from my own experiences I learned many ways to convey my message or thoughts through art. I also feel that no one should tell you what is good or bad, only you should judge if you like it or not. Many people limit their creativity because they are afraid of what someone will say about it. I use to make comic books as a young kid not for my classmates to enjoy but for my own amusement. If I had only created them for others they might have not been as special to me or how I wanted them to be. I say to all those writers and artists keep doing what makes you feel good and not what others want from you.
